FAQ
Why separate channels?+
(1) Boost specific channels for compositing/editing, (2) diagnose camera sensor issues, (3) learn how digital images work.
Why are channels grayscale?+
Each channel has only intensity (no hue), so it's grayscale. White = 100% of that color, black = 0%.
Which channel is brightest for red objects?+
The red channel — green and blue are dark. A way to visualize color physics.
How about CMYK or HSL?+
This tool only supports RGB. CMYK is for print and needs a separate tool.
Can I recombine separated channels?+
This tool only separates. Recombining needs Photoshop or GIMP's channel mixer.
Good way to learn photo theory?+
Looking at RGB channels separately makes light synthesis and digital color easier to grasp.
