ISBN-10 vs ISBN-13?+
ISBN-10 was the old 10-digit standard. Since 2007, only ISBN-13 (with 978 or 979 prefix) is issued. ISBN-10 can be converted to ISBN-13 by prepending 978 and recalculating the check digit.
What prefix do Korean books use?+
ISBN-13 starting with 978-89-... (and newer 979-11-...) are Korean publisher codes.
Where do I get an ISBN?+
In Korea, request one for free at the National Library of Korea's ISBN/ISSN application system. Self-publishers can apply too.
Is it the same as EAN-13?+
ISBN-13 is a type of EAN-13 (with 978/979 prefix). It reads on any EAN-13 scanner.
Does the barcode include the price?+
No, the ISBN itself does not encode a price. Book back covers sometimes include a separate EAN-5 price add-on.
What if I make up an ISBN?+
It will not be a real ISBN. Fine for class projects or internal use, but bookstores and libraries require a real one.
