FAQ

EAN-13 vs UPC-A?+

EAN-13 is 13 digits (country + company + product + check). UPC-A is 12 digits (US standard). Korea/Europe/Japan use EAN-13; the US uses UPC-A.

Where do I get a Korean company code (880)?+

GS1 Korea (Korea Distribution & Logistics) issues company prefixes. Required for retail products. Arbitrary numbers are fine for internal use.

Why does the check digit matter?+

It validates scans. Mis-scans are detected because the last digit must match the calculated value. This tool computes it for you.

Is ISBN different?+

ISBN is EAN-13 starting with 978/979. Use the dedicated ISBN tool — it converts ISBN-10 too.

Do I have to start with 880?+

Only for Korean GS1. Other prefixes: Japan 45/49, US 0/1, UK 50, Germany 40–44.

Can I just enter 13 digits directly?+

You can, and the last digit will be validated. Entering 12 digits is easier since the check digit is auto-computed.
