FAQ
Is it accurate for high muscle mass?+
BMI is a simple calculation that doesn't distinguish muscle from fat. Athletes should measure body fat percentage separately.
BMI formula?+
Weight (kg) ÷ height² (m). E.g., 70 / (1.70 × 1.70) = 24.2. WHO Asia-Pacific: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–22.9 normal, 23–24.9 overweight, ≥25 obese.
Why do Korean and US standards differ?+
Asians have higher body fat percentage and metabolic risk at the same BMI than Westerners. WHO Asia-Pacific (overweight at 23 vs. US 25) is stricter and used in Korea.
Same for children and teens?+
No — under 18, use BMI percentile curves for growth. This tool is for adults; refer to pediatric materials for children.
Better indicators than BMI?+
Body fat percentage (InBody), waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), visceral fat measurement, etc. BMI is a quick first-pass screen.
Can pregnant women use it?+
BMI standards differ during pregnancy. Recommended gain depends on pre-pregnancy BMI — consult your OB.
